Comparing Survival Curves Using Rank Tests
نویسنده
چکیده
Survival times of patients can be compared using rank tests in various experimental setups, including the two-sample case and t h e cnse of paired dnta. Attention is focussed on two frequently occurring complications in medical applications: censoring and tail alternatives. A review is given of the author’s recent work on a new and simple class of censored rank test:. Various models for tail nlternatives are discussed nnd the relation to censoring is demonstrated.

A new method for the comparison of survival distributions.
The assessment of overall homogeneity of time-to-event curves is a key element in survival analysis in biomedical research. The currently commonly used testing methods, e.g. log-rank test, Wilcoxon test, and Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, may have a significant loss of statistical testing power under certain circumstances. In this paper we propose a new testing method that is robust for the compariso...
متن کاملWhy comparing survival curves between two prognostic subgroups may be misleading
We consider the validation of prognostic diagnostic tests that predict two prognostic subgroups (high-risk vs low-risk) for a given disease or treatment. When comparing survival curves between two prognostic subgroups the possibility of misclassification arises, i.e. a patient predicted as high-risk might be de facto low-risk and vice versa. This is a fundamental difference from comparing survi...
متن کاملLIFETEST+ODS+IML=Stratified Log Rank Tests
When analyzing right-censored survival data, equality of survival curves across treatment groups is often tested using log rank tests (Peto and Peto 1972), aka Mantel-Haenszel tests. For instance, in a cancer trial, the primary response variable might be time to disease progression and the treatment groups might be chemotherapy regimens. To increase power and protect against baseline imbalances...
متن کاملNon-parametric Methods for Comparing Two Survival Distributions
Survival curves for each group gives comparison at some arbitrary point(s) but it does not provide a comparison of the total survival experience of two groups. So some Non-parametric methods like log rank test, Cox-Mantel test are popular methods used for comparing the survival distribution and also these methods takes whole follow-up period. In this paper non-parametric methods are used for da...
متن کاملStatistical Inference Methods for Two Crossing Survival Curves: A Comparison of Methods
A common problem that is encountered in medical applications is the overall homogeneity of survival distributions when two survival curves cross each other. A survey demonstrated that under this condition, which was an obvious violation of the assumption of proportional hazard rates, the log-rank test was still used in 70% of studies. Several statistical methods have been proposed to solve this...
